Álvaro Pimentel, the City Council’s delegate for the Economy, opens the 4th meeting of the Space Forum, which reinforces the “Seville, Spanish Space Capital” initiative promoted by the City Council

Álvaro Pimentel, the Seville City Council’s delegate for the economy, opened the 4th meeting of the 2026 Space Forum, an event that brought together companies and public and private institutions that are part of this strategic ecosystem, centered around the “Seville, Spanish Space Capital” initiative.

During his remarks, Pimentel emphasized that “the development of the aerospace sector in Seville is not a temporary phenomenon, but rather the result of sustained planning and public-private collaboration involving institutions such as the City Council, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Spanish Space Agency, as well as leading companies, universities, and research centers.”

In this regard, he highlighted the global nature of the sector, stating that “the tech industry is, by definition, an international field, and the City Council is promoting cooperation so that our startups can compete in the most demanding environments.”

The delegate also highlighted the economic impact of this strategy, noting that “our ultimate goal is for Seville to be a driver of economic transformation that creates skilled jobs and attracts high-value investment.” He also emphasized the role of the Space Forum as a key platform for transferring scientific and technological knowledge to the business sector: “It is the place where innovation is transformed into tangible business opportunities for the people of Seville.”

Pimentel has stated that the City Council is working to build “a sustainable city model, where leadership in the spatial economy translates into greater well-being, certainty, and a brighter future for future generations.”

The event also featured a presentation by Gonzalo García Julián, a Washington-based aerospace engineer and entrepreneur, who spoke about the strategic and financial factors Seville-based companies need to consider in order to enter the U.S. market.

Regarding this initiative, the delegate stated that “Seville is strengthening its leadership in the sector to pave the way for our companies in the U.S. market, establishing itself as the leading aerospace hub in Southern Europe.”

In this regard, he highlighted the role of initiatives such as the ESA BIC Andalusia incubator, located in the Renfe Naves, which helps foster local talent and facilitates its entry into the global market. “The administration of José Luis Sanz is working to ensure that innovation translates into commercial applications with a real impact on the local economy,” he concluded.

Through initiatives like this, Seville continues to strengthen its position as an international leader in innovation, technology, and investment attraction, focusing on strategic sectors that contribute to the diversification of its economic model.
