The mayor is presenting the city to the American business elite as a competitive and secure hub for new industrial and technological projects
Seville, March 10, 2026.– The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, has carried out an institutional and business agenda in New York aimed at strengthening the city’s international profile, improving investment attraction tools, and establishing Seville as a competitive destination for companies and high-value-added projects. During this visit, the City Council has positioned the Andalusian capital before key players in the U.S. economic ecosystem with the aim of opening new avenues for cooperation and attracting international capital.
One of the main highlights of the trip was the meeting with corporate leaders and investment funds affiliated with the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce in New York, a forum in which the mayor promoted Seville as one of the most competitive and secure investment hubs in Southern Europe. In this context, he highlighted the city’s potential as a hub capable of combining industrial capacity, innovation, connectivity, and quality of life—elements that reinforce its appeal for the establishment of international projects.
In his remarks, Sanz highlighted the strength of the city’s well-established strategic sectors, particularly aerospace, technology, and manufacturing, as well as the role of municipal tools designed to facilitate new investment. Among these, he highlighted the work of Sevilla Open for Business as a one-stop shop for investor support, as part of a municipal strategy based on administrative streamlining, legal certainty, and public-private collaboration.
The itinerary in New York also included a working meeting with officials from the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the agency responsible for promoting the city’s economic development. The meeting provided a firsthand look at the operations of one of the world’s most influential economic development agencies, as well as its tools for attracting investment, promoting strategic infrastructure, and fostering partnerships between government agencies and businesses.
Through this exchange, the City Council aims to continue refining its economic development policies and strengthen Seville’s ability to compete in attracting business initiatives in an increasingly demanding international context. The visit, therefore, serves a dual purpose: to promote the city in priority markets and, at the same time, to incorporate international best practices that will help improve local mechanisms for economic growth. The latter is a direct implication of the meeting’s agenda and the mayor’s stated goal of learning about successful models to adapt better tools for attracting investment.
As part of this itinerary, Sanz also visited IBM’s headquarters in New York, where he met with company executives to discuss potential avenues for collaboration with Seville in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and technologies applied to smart cities. During the meeting, the city’s potential to host new business projects linked to innovation and digital transformation was also discussed.
The meeting with IBM also served to highlight Seville’s strengths as a technology hub in southern Europe, including its innovative ecosystem, its pool of talent, and the opportunities associated with venues such as Seville Tech Park and the future Higuerón Technology District. According to information released by the City Council, the company’s interest in expanding its presence in the city—where IBM already has offices—was also discussed.
With this agenda in New York, Seville continues to strengthen its international standing as a city poised to attract investment, create quality jobs, and establish a more innovative and diversified economic model that is closely connected to major international decision-making hubs.
