The City Council and the Andalusian Cement Manufacturers Association are collaborating on joint initiatives related to decarbonization, waste recovery, and efficient resource management

The mayor of Seville held a working meeting with representatives of the Andalusian cement industry to explore potential areas of collaboration between the industry and the City Council in fields related to sustainability, innovation, and efficient resource management.

The meeting is of particular importance to Seville, the city where the Andalusian trade association for the sector is headquartered and where this industry also plays a significant role as a supplier for numerous municipal infrastructure projects and construction works. Alan Svaiter, president of the Andalusian Cement Manufacturers Association (AFCA), attended the meeting.

During the meeting, several areas of collaboration with direct applications in the city were discussed. These included promoting the use of low-carbon cement in municipal public works projects, the potential use of EMASESA’s sewage sludge as an energy resource, and the recovery of waste from municipal facilities as alternative fuels.

This approach would enable simultaneous progress toward several strategic goals for Seville: reducing emissions, improving the efficiency of urban waste management, decreasing the use of fossil fuels, and generating economic activity linked to more sustainable industrial transformation processes.

In this context, both parties agreed to work on a collaboration protocol between the Seville City Council and the Andalusian cement industry that will enable these initiatives to be carried out in a coordinated manner and with a shared vision for the city.

Through partnerships like this, Seville continues to explore ways to move toward a more efficient and innovative urban and industrial model that is aligned with the major challenges of the ecological transition, while strengthening its ability to generate economic activity and jobs in the surrounding area.
